When I was 4 years old I lost my mum to breast cancer. As a 30 year old I was considered to be high risk. In 2008 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2010 I found Pink Hope, a charity started by Krystal Barter who has a strong family history and who carries the mutated BRCA 1 gene.
Pink Hope provides on line support to women and their families who are high risk for breast and/or ovarian cancer.
Since that date I have become more involved in Pink Hope, spending weeks at a time travelling to Syndey to help out in the office, running or assisting with fundraising events, looking after the merchandise stock in Melbourne and generally doing whatever needs to be done. In Pink Hope I found a family, a safe place to be with people who understood what it is like to live with the effects of breat cancer every day.
